Wyoming's Health Information Resource

The WYHIR—pronounced “wire”—is Wyoming’s source for information regarding the private and secure exchange of health information. Our mission is to ensure the privacy of protected health information by advancing the knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and best practices pertaining to health information exchange in Wyoming. The WYHIR aims to foster and facilitate a greater understanding of the privacy and security issues surrounding health information.

The WYHIR contains resources to aid in health information exchange decision-making. The resource section has detailed use and disclosure protocols and other resources to assist providers and consumers with understanding the intricacies of health information exchanges.
The WYHIR also contains information regarding the relationship between interoperable health information technology and the privacy and security of health information. Interoperability has the potential to ensure the privacy of health information and improve the quality of care.
Much of the confusion surrounding health information exchanges stems from the misinterpretation of law, namely HIPAA. The WYHIR’s legal section is devoted to clarifying key state and national statutes affecting health information exchange.
